Registered Social Worker
Stephen Brown is a Family therapist, with decades of experience in the field of mental health and psychotherapy. Concurrent with Stephen’s private practice at ClearHeart, his role within the medical community of mental health entails individual, group, and psycho-educational facilitations. Stephen places a high value on the therapeutic relationship as an open, nonjudgmental, supportive space in which practical solutions arise. Drawing from a multitude of therapeutic traditions, he offers both Couples therapy as well as Individual counselling at ClearHeart.
Emotionally focused communication with Conscious Relationship building, based on the Hendricks Institute model, is Stephen’s main approach in his work with couples. Developing the communication tools to resolve relationship blocks allows us to reconnect with what matters most in life. Moving beyond relationship gridlock let’s you get your life and love back on track.
Through a process called Effective Inquiry, Stephen’s approach draws from a multitude of therapeutic traditions. Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT), Somatic approaches that incorporate Mindfulness with breath work to regulate mood and emotion, and Clinical Hypnosis name but a few of the therapeutic approaches that inform his practice. In addition to Stephen’s private practice at ClearHeart, he will be developing and facilitating small Group therapy sessions for the treatment of anxiety – Calm Brain ™ Group will focus on how mind, breathe, and brain work together to create a calmer state.
"Working with my counsellor allowed me to use self-compassion to get to the crux of the matter: we have inside of us the capacity to heal ourselves, and the process allowed me to do precisely that."RK,
"Elaine has several approaches to processing emotional blocks and traumas that allow her to respond to fluctuating needs. Her deep intuition and lovely sense of calm imbue our sessions with flow; even when the work is tough I leave feeling lightened. I respect her intellectual, theoretical grounding - and also her easy sense of humour!"EG,
"Elaine was recommended to me by a colleague, I would confidently recommend her as a counsellor."CR,
