Child/Youth Counselling

At Clearheart, we offer a safe, confidential space where your young ones can express their thoughts and feelings openly without judgment. This can include anxiety, depression, bullying, or academic stress.

What is youth/child counselling at Clearheart?

Youth/child counselling (therapy) is designed to support young people as they navigate the challenges and transitions of adolescence. At Clearheart, we offer a safe, confidential space where your young ones can express their thoughts and feelings openly without judgment. This can include things like anxiety, depression, bullying, academic stress, or relationship problems. Our youth counsellors are trained to listen and help them develop coping strategies and problem-solving skills. Our goal is to provide support that fosters mental health, personal growth, and positive behavioral changes.

For youths under 10: We may also ask to work with you, the parent(s)/guardian(s), to help coach you on how best to help your young person.

By addressing concerns early, counselling can prevent the escalation of mental health issues and promote overall well-being. This type of therapy is tailored to the developmental stage of the young person, ensuring that interventions are age-appropriate and effective in fostering healthy, long-term outcomes.

What if my child is too nervous to go to therapy?

If your child is too nervous to go to therapy, patience and empathy are key. Listen to their concerns, if they’re comfortable to share. It’s important to be patient and not push. You can highlight how the therapist is there to help, and that it’s a safe space where they can talk about anything without judgment. We’re happy to provide 15-minute consultations for free, which can help ease their concern and give them the chance to pick their own therapist.

Ultimately, therapy works best when your child is open to trying it. We’re happy to help without pressure and expectations.

Is my child’s session confidential?

As with every form of therapy we provide, information that we share together in session is strictly confidential, unless one of the following should occur:

  1. Court subpoena of our files; or subpoena of my testimony in Court. Please note that no exception is made to disclosing our notes, including client request.
  2. lf we suspect cases of child abuse that have not been previously reported. This includes physical harm, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and emotional harm. In this case we are required by law to report to the Ministry for Children and Families.
  3. If you threaten and plan to harm yourself or another, we are required by law to report this to local authorities.

If you have any questions about the above, please feel free to call us.
